Recognised Prior Learning (RPL)

Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) is the term used to describe a number of assessment processes which result in the formal recognition of existing skills and knowledge that a person has acquired through formal or informal training and work experience.

The skills and knowledge that you have obtained in a prior experience must be current, i.e. you can still do today what you learned yesterday or three years ago and you have knowledge of the current information.

MARCSTA’s General Safety Induction delivers the occupational safety and health skills and knowledge required to work safely in a range of industrial workplace applications.

These skills and knowledge underpin the core generic unit RIIOHS201A Work Safely and Follow OH&S Policies and Procedures.

This unit provides a basis for continuous training and application of occupational safety and health in the workplace.

A number of other introductory occupational safety and health programs from other industrial training packages have similar content to that contained in Work Safely and Follow OH&S Policies and Procedures in part or in general and completion by candidates of those programs provides an opportunity for recognition of prior learning towards achievement of the Work Safely qualification.

Conversely, the comprehensive nature of the General Safety Induction provides an opportunity for successful candidates to apply for accreditation for a range of other training package units.
